A First Announcement [1] has gone out that IFLA [2], the International Federal of Library Associations and Institutions, will be holding its 74th general conference and council in Quebec City, August 10-15, 2008. The conference theme sounds, hmm, vaguely familiar: “Libraries without borders: Navigating towards global understanding”. More details to follow. Oh, if you are part of the masses signing up for Facebook this month, check out their Facebook page [3].
On a related note, this year’s conference is being held in Durban, South Africa [4]. 2009 will be in Milan, Italy [5].
The Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations and the IFLA Audiovisual and Multimedia Section are holding their Joint Technical Symposium on Audiovisual Materials [6] in Toronto at the end of this month, June 28-30, 2007. 400-500 attendees are expected. The JT Symposium has its own website [7]. Quite a few organizations belong to the Coordinating Council, including UNESCO. For those in Toronto, there will be a special screening of Dr. Strangelove on June 28,2007 [8]. It looks like registration for that event is open to others, not just delegates. Hmmm…”how I learned to stop worrying and love my technology.”
