After a week, we seem to have stumped the research skills of Slaw’s readers – or at least the time and patience of our competitors to date – in the global Scavenger Hunt, the contributions just keep on coming.

In terms of the contest list of 50 dates, set by the two Simons, the table below lists the dates remaining to be identified. The lead is still with our reader (a pioneer blogger) in Oxford, who is well familiar with the Bodleian Law Library. He has 148 points. Close behind is a prominent lawyer from Toronto is close behind with 115 points. And the Western Canadian librarians who started so well are behind at 53 and 46 points. We've had entries from law schools in Quebec, Ontario, and Ireland – it's wonderful to connect this way with our global readership.

That list of dates (which trumps both the UNESCO and Simon and Simon lists) is a real revelation. When the contest ends we'll be able to provide the Library of Congress and UNESCO with a thoughtful guide to the world's collective legal heritage. But we need your thoughts too.. Our contestants have successfully identified the dates listed here, as well as giving us some food for thought with their own nominations for what should be in the legal heritage of mankind.

As a present to celebrate fête de Dollard, la journée nationale des Patriotes and the fête de la Reine, we thought the attached map might give contestants some big hints, since the map shows the location of each of the outstanding items.

For those who want to use their research skills to compete, here is the revised table – can you guess any of the dates?

DATES
160 BCE 50 BCE 510 624 1117
1474 1532 1641 1681 1698
1748 1789 1848 1963

Send your entries (on one item or any number) by email to contest@slaw.ca and we’ll track the winners.
