		<description>Scnheier is always full of sense, though I take him to be talking about the pointless restrictiveness of the responses to the threats more than the invasion of privacy.  Having to take off one&#039;s shoes to be scanned, or to do without water (or books, almost), or to sit for the last hour of the flight, are useless measures that cost a lot in irritation and time, but they do not affect one&#039;s privacy.

So we need a general informed debate about security vs efficiency and effectiveness, as well as one about security vs privacy - though I agree that the latter is important too.  If the clear idiocy of the recent round of &#039;security&#039; measures leads to a good discussion of privacy as well, so much the better.</description>
