Legal History Blog

Yesterday I happened upon the Legal History Blog, and wanted to share my find. Started in November 2006, this blog has been consistently covering the academic scene in legal history, including the publication of new treatises, for some time. It is a group blog with main contributors Mary L. Dudziak, Judge Edward J. and Ruey L. Guirado Professor of Law, History and Political Science at the University of Southern California Law School, Dan Ernst, Professor of Law, Georgetown University, and Clara Altman, a graduate student at Brandeis University who co-ordinates the Legal History Blog’s accompanying Facebook page. They have also had a number of guest bloggers.

From the posts I observed, they cover new book titles, association and academic news, and the occasional commentary such as Obama Declassification Order Lauded by Historians (Dec. 31/09) and “Grim Year” on the Job Market for History PhDs (Jan. 6/10). If you scroll down on the blog site itself, on the left they have book covers for new titles, and also links to various university press websites.

What brought me to the site in the first place was coverage of the forthcoming paper Who’s Running the Road? Street Railway Strikes and the Problem of Constructing a Liberal Capitalist Order in Canada, 1886 by Eric Tucker, Osgoode Hall Law School, in the blog post Tucker on Canadian Street Railway Strikes (Jan. 9/10). Looking through the blog, I see other Canadian coverage, so well worth a visit by Slaw readers.

In addition to Facebook, the Legal History Blog also has a presence on Twitter as @legalhistory.
