TEDxLibrariansTO

I'm an unabashed fan of TED. I'm not referring to Mr. Tjaden, although there is much to admire about the new Treasurer of CALL, but rather to the Technology, Entertainment and Design conference. This has been a source of inspiration, challenge and new ideas for me for years, and I'm certain that many of the SLAW community hold it in similar regard.

Imagine my delight when I learned that the University of Toronto will be hosting a TEDx event! The details on the speakers have been emerging over the last couple of weeks, and registration opens tonight at 6:00. The event itself will be held on Saturday June 25.

The theme, Librarians as thought leaders, is a broad one, and I'm looking forward to hearing the speakers. Although mostly academics, the range of perspectives seems quite broad (one of the presenters seems to be keen on turning us into cyborgs).

As a warmup to the big event itself, the organizers have asked for contributors to post a short video describing how librarians can be (and be perceived as) thought leaders. Content is starting to show up, but it would be nice to see more. This is a great topic for conversation, and I'm pondering my contribution. I hope you'll be able to join us. In anticipation of the question, I have asked the organizers if they plan to livestream the day's events. I'll add a comment to this post as soon as I find out.

She has worked at the Federal Court of Canada (primarily in reference, and briefly as a Systems Librarian), for Donahue, Ernst & Young, the Ontario Securities Commission, and the Ontario Workplace Tribunals Library.

    Just heard back from TEDxLibrariansTO – they are not able to livestream on June 25, but will be recording the speakers and making the content available later. I will try to remember to post info as it becomes available, and if I'm lucky enough to score a ticket, will be live tweeting as @wenlib. Hashtag for the day is #tedxlib.
