Gazette Officielle Du Quebec Free of Charge on the Internet

On December 15, 2011, Quebec's Minister of Justice and Attorney General Jean-Marc Fournier announced the filing of a draft regulation aimed at making the Gazette officielle du Québec available free of charge on the Internet.

The "Gazette" provides the province's official government record of proposed regulations, proclamations and other statutory notices, as well as private sector notices that are required by statute to be published in the Gazette officielle du Québec .

It's a valuable source of information for the legal profession as well as any Quebec citizen.

A consultation period of 45 days is required before the regulation is adopted. Once adopted, Publications du Québec will provide free access to parts 1 and 2 of the Gazette officielle du Québec on their website. It will also change the price of the paper based annual subscription as well as fees for notices, advertisements and documents published in Parts 1 and 2 of the Gazette officielle du Québec.

Marie-Yosie Saint-Cyr, LL.B., was called to the Quebec bar in 1988 and is still a member in good standing. She practised business, employment and labour law until 1999. For over 12 years, Yosie has been the Managing Editor of the Human Resources and Compliance Collection from First Reference. She is the managing editor of the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) of Ontario’s monthly member e-newsletter ELAW. Yosie is one of Canada’s best-known and most-respected HR authors, with an extensive background in employment and labour law across the country.

    This is good news, Yosie, thanks for brining it to our attention. Official Gazettes to my mind are overlooked research tools and historical sources. Related to your positing, a colleague brought to my attention the Library and Archives Canada website for the archival issues of the Canada Gazette, which is not only searchable, but provides some interesting and useful historical information about the Gazette, with links to to sources for further research into its history, including to Martha Foote's excellent illustrated monograph now hosted online at the University of Saskatchewan at http://library2.usask.ca/gic/v1n4/foote/foote.html.
