Celebrations and Anniversaries

I was speaking with a colleague the other day who was celebrating a significant wedding anniversary. For fun we started looking up the modern vs. traditional anniversary gifts. As I’m sure you can imagine, they vary! But as much as we may like the gift to celebrate the moment, it is the sentiment that is really important.

Milestones and anniversaries should be fun. In our world, law firms have special histories that should be celebrated. Milestones also offer an opportunity to look forward.

For a firm celebrating a milestone, the first questions to ask is who do we want to celebrate with and who are we doing this for? Is it for clients, lawyers or staff? As with everything, if you understand your audience, than coming up with ideas is much easier!

Firms that use these periods as opportunities to engage and build culture truly thrive. They celebrate success while acknowledging missteps. They are honest about who they are. Incredible effort is put into the make the celebration meaningful.

Celebrations are a great time to push boundaries and try new things. Is your firm thinking about a rebrand? Use a celebratory year to facelift your logo or colours without introducing an entire new brand. It allows you to test boundaries without going all in.

Every year we can find at least one firm celebrating a milestone. Most will do a really good job and tick all the “celebration” boxes. Most will be conservative in their approach making sure to include staff and clients. All good, not everything has to be new. But you do want special. Achieving special is worth the effort..

The great thing about a celebration is you get to decide what that is. Who says you have to celebrate 25 or 100 years in practice. Why not 33 or 74? Those years are likely just as important in your history. Be a disruptor. Be different. But most of all make it special, meaningful and memorable.
