Canadian Lawyers Map

In August of 2008 I started to map the location of Canadian law firms and lawyer’s offices on Google Maps. It’s a cooperative project, open to any an all who have an interest in making this information more easily and freely available — and who have a Google account.

We’d like you to join us in putting Canadian lawyers on the map.

Adding a location is a simple matter:

  1. Log in to your Google account.
  2. Click this link (or the “view larger map” link beneath the map below) to go to a full version of the map.
  3. Click “Edit” at the top of the list of firms.
  4. Enter the address you’d like to add into the text box at the very top of the page and click Search Maps.
  5. When the result appears, click the link that will add it to this map
  6. In the window that will then pop up, choose to edit it in rich text mode to provide
      * the firm name in the title box
      * the address and telelphone number of the firm
      * and a live link to their website

  7. Click on the coloured marker to bring up the array of possible markers, and choose the one for the relevant province or territory.

Here are the (arbitrary) markers for the various provinces and territories:

Your new location will appear at the very bottom of the list of lawyers and firms. With the edit button still clicked, you can drag the address up the list and drop it in the appropriate spot.

Don’t forget to click “save” and “done” when you’re finished.
