Lawyers Love Libraries

Keep Toronto Reading

That's the slogan for a fund-raiser for the public library that some of the Bay Street firms are supporting.  The idea is – Can you spare a Toonie for the Library?  Why not? — since Lawyers Love Libraries.

February is Keep Toronto Reading Campaign month. As part of this campaign, throughout February, Toronto Public Library is asking Torontonians for loose change to help fund library services. The Chief Librarian explains it all.

It's strictly a loose change campaign – so no tax receipts. Each $2 donation helps the Toronto Public Library Foundation enhance library collections and services.  A number of other Bay Street law firms are also participating; so far we've raised a few hundred bucks in just an hour.

We're keeping it simple at a toonie, which we think lawyers will gladly give without thinking.  And if anyone else wants to join in, the more the merrier.  Drop me a line and I'll tell you how we're doing it at Heenan Blaikie and how you can help.

Simon Chester's involvement with legal information goes back to the Seventies when he taught legal research at Osgoode Hall and served on CLIC's board - that was the Canadian Law Information Council. He has practiced law on Bay Street for almost thirty years and speaks and writes widely on legal, technology, ethical and professional issues.
