Legal IT 3.0 – April 20 & 21, 2009

Legal IT 3.0 is coming up on April 20 & 21 in Montreal. Dominic Jaar is once again heading up the organizing committee and has put the program together along with Xavier Beauchamp-Tremblay.

It is the largest and the most important event of the year in Canada on information technology for law. Dozens of experts from Canada and internationally (United States, France and Australia), including the keynote speaker Ronald J. Deibert, director of the Citizen Lab, will be there. You will also see some Slaw folk speaking including Simon Chester, Steve Matthews, me, and of course Dominic Jaar and Xavier Beauchamp-Tremblay (have I overlooked anyone?).

There will be 32 sessions to choose from, with something for most types of practice and areas of expertise.

Steps are also being taken to obtain approval from various professional groups for continuing education credits.

Date : April 20 and 21 2009
Time : 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, followed by cocktails
Location : Montreal (Centre Mont-Royal, Metro Peel)
Fees : from $400 to $667

    Well, the annual IT.Can conference is a pretty good IT Law event too. Leg@l IT is fun, though, and works in two languages. Dominic has done great work developing this event, and has expanded its length (and breadth). It is well worth attending.

    We're actually getting much better at legal technology conferences in Canada. Along with Dominic's Leg@l IT, we also have Dave Bilinsky's Pacific Legal Tech which is ramping up for a new edition this fall.

    I like John's comment above. What's interesting to me about this year's Leg@l IT event is the expanded range of speakers. Dominic has received a lot of help from his friends in the US market.
