Odds and Ends

A couple of unrelated things in this post. Firstly, this link to a NY Times article about an author who utilizes a computer to actually compose his books; explains a lot of material out there web or non-web.

I’m also trying to get something straight. It seems that a number of graduates who are preparing for licensing examination are getting a raw deal from the L.S.U.C. Somebody please help if I don’t have a proper handle on this. But it seems that to obtain the materials to prepare for the exam, a student can either pick them up in person for free (complimentary with registration) which is fine if one is in Ontario. OR, they have to download them and then print off several thousand pages at their own expense. Which would cover everyone not in Ontario. However; if one is able to figure out the convoluted criteria to get the package sent to them, they can send a special appeal to the Registrar via email and hope that the registrar deems their situation meets the criteria and have the materials sent to them.

This seems like a very raw deal to me. For Dalhousie students where convocation is on May 23 this is in addition to having to decide whether to skip convocation or stay in Nova Scotia to study and then head to Ontario to write on May 27. And for students in New Brunswick who are waiting for something to arrive in the mail, they probably are going to have to wait a few more days as there is a fair amount of water going through the streets of Venice, er Fredericton (for all you vets of the great Toronto snowstorm, notice how a state of emergency has not been declared…..)

So if some clarification can be provided that would be good. Because otherwise, this appears like some are getting treated rather unfairly.

  1. Yeah, but Harper’s visiting the flooded area. That never happened when it snowed in Toronto, at least.

  2. so you are saying that is a positive…..
