26 Cannabis Companies Sign Supply Agreements With Province of Ontario

Yesterday, the Ontario Cannabis Store (the “OCS“), which will initially be the province’s sole retailer (and later will morph into a wholesaler), announced that it has entered into supply agreements with 26 federally licensed producers after having completed its first competitive product call.

Patrick Ford, President and Chief Operating Officer of the OCS, noted that the agreements allow the province to “safely and securely provide a broad variety of cannabis products to adult consumers when online sales begin” on October 17, 2018.

Although the details of particular products and sizes have not yet been released, the OCS stated that a wide range of sizes and products had been approved including dried flower, cannabis oil and cannabis seeds.

Shortly after the announcement, Tweed announced that it had secured over 100 cannabis SKUs across multiple formats including pre-rolled joints, dried flower, oils and softgel capsules. Hiku also announced that it had secured 25 SKUs including raw flower, oils, pre-rolls, and its Hosting Gift Pack.

The 26 supply agreements are only the beginning. The OCS announced that in the coming months it would be holding further competitive product calls to expand the selection of available cannabis products and would also be responsive to the preferences of Ontario consumers on an ongoing basis.

In addition, the OCS indicated that it is in the process of finalizing supply agreements with cannabis accessory suppliers to ensure that the OCS carries a diverse selection of accessories for Ontarians.
