What’s Hot on CanLII This Week
Here are the three most-consulted English-language cases on CanLII for the week of March 20 – 27..
♨ 1.Romspen Investment Corp. v. 6176666 Canada Ltée. 2012 ONSC 1727
[2] Let me tell a little story. It is not an unusual story. Indeed, it is a common story in this court. But the story illustrates an important point, a point which judges, as the ultimate stewards of the health of our system of justice, must be vigilant in keeping on the radar screens of those who hold the purse strings of this Court’s administration system.
♨ 2. Doré v. Barreau du Québec 2012 SCC 12
[1] The focus of this appeal is on the decision of a disciplinary body to reprimand a lawyer for the content of a letter he wrote to a judge after a court proceeding.
♨ 3. R. v. Ipeelee 2012 SCC 13
[1] These two appeals raise the issue of the principles governing the sentencing of Aboriginal offenders for breaches of long-term supervision orders (“LTSO”). Both appeals concern Aboriginal offenders with long criminal records. They provide an opportunity to revisit and reaffirm the judgment of this Court in R. v. Gladue, 1999 CanLII 679 (SCC), [1999] 1 S.C.R. 688. I propose to allow the offender’s appeal in Ipeelee and to dismiss the Crown’s appeal in Ladue.
The most-consulted French-language judgment was Doré c. Barreau du Québec 2012 CSC 12
[1] Le présent appel porte principalement sur la décision d’un comité de discipline de réprimander un avocat pour le contenu d’une lettre qu’il a écrite à un juge après une audience.
