Back to School!

On the first day of the new school year (since this is my first time in a while not actually going back to school, I’m feeling a little nostalgic) people are often optimistic about what the year holds in store. In the spirit of this optimism, I thought I’d point out an online application for any students reading here.

Notemesh, a “social note-taking” application, is based on a philosophy that can seem a little out of place in law school. In their own words, “the goal is that everyone will work together to create a set of lecture notes that the entire class can agree on.” This is probably overly optimistic, because in my experience there is nothing an entire class – even if not a class of law students – can agree on.

Notemesh allows students to create note pages for a class, and gives other students in the class access to edit the notes, fix any errors, and generally improve them. And, of course, there is a revert feature to fix any new errors that may arise. It’s like a tool to automatically replace those pages that have suspiciously been torn out of library books. Not that this happens, of course…

The idea of Notemesh is that when everyone works together, everyone benefits. Which is usually true – unless you’re graded on a curve.
