‘The Holy Grail of Archival Collections’
That’s what the Globe described the Steele Collection as this morning.
But for Slaw readers, the description better applies to The Times unveiling of the most significant cases reported in the paper from 1785 to 1869, including links to the actual reports from The Times of that period.
David Pannick introduces the concept.
Here are the first set of cases:
Davies v East, January 8, 1788
R v Burdett, November 28, 1820
Collins v Godefroy, January 18, 1831
Vaughan v Menlove, August 2, 1836
Priestly v Fowler, January 17, 1837
Attwood v Small, March 27, 1838
M’Kinnell v Robinson, May 1, 1838
Stockdale v Hansard, April 26, 1839
Inquest into death of Bridget Groke, January 4, 1840
R v St George, August 10, 1840
Merry v Green, February 13, 1841
Quarrier v Coulson, January 28, 1842
Foss v Harbottle, March 27, 1843 ((Note that this link which is of continuing interest to Canadian lawyers – appears to be dodgy))
R v Millis, February 24, April 4, 1844
R v Hall (alias Rollins), April 3, 1845
Hartley v Ponsonby, June 5, 1857
