Copyright Reform Survey – What Do You Think?

With the copyright reform hearings and public input now in full gear, I thought it would be interesting to get a feel for where readers are at with this issue. So I created this quick, clearly unscientific poll. Copyright issues are really about balancing the interests of creators, users, and society as a whole, and are far more complex than a short question – but lets see which side of the larger debate readers fall on.

  1. In short, I’d like to see shorter copyright durations, and copyright violators only pursued by federal gov when something is being bought or sold (commercial copyright violations).

Anything less (like sharing via P2P) should not be fought with tax dollars. P2P is a form of market pressure which pushes the cost of content down, and forces industries to recognize the level of convenience expected by consumers… make all movies and TV shows available on-demand and without copy protection which makes them harder to consume.

  2. Most people would also like to see legal fees massively reduced, lawyers required to donate significant free time in rteurn for their monopoly on providing legal services, and more competition from paralegals. In the real world, P2P is in most cases blatant theft and the fact that people expect it really isn’t relevant
