ABA LPM Launch App Version of Law Practice Magazine
ABA’s Law Practice Management section has launched an App version of their Law Practice Magazine in both the iTunes App Store and on . Here’s a screen shot:

This new digital rendition will be available as both a member benefit (free) and to non-member subscribers for a $20 per year. For current LPM section members, gaining access was as simple as typing in your email address registered with the ABA. The interface has a simple page-by-page finger slide to navigate, and is built on the Texterity platform.
Count me as impressed. The look and feel of the App’s execution seems solid, and as long as the thing doesn’t start crashing in the coming days, I’ll probably make this version my primary method of reading Law Practice magazine.
The subscription fee may be seen as a mild deterrent for non-members; and cutting the price in half would probably have generated new readers and more exposure. On the flip side, giving it a reasonable value up-front establishes the App as a true member benefit, and hopefully encourages new members to the section.
Congratulations to everyone at LP magazine, EIC Sheila Blackford and Section Chair Tom Mighell. Fingers crossed that others have my positive experience.

The new Ontario Bar Association (OBA) magazine, JUST., which Connie covered here previously also, recently released an app.
Looks to me like the digital rendition is available to everyone for free. Good move by the OBA.
Cool that the ABA and the OBA are into apps — though web-based sites are probably better than special purpose apps for differing OSs. What blows my mind, though, is that so far as I can tell, neither has an RSS feed. Lest you think me stuck in some tech from the past, let me say that this means that subscribers, if such there are, will be getting their stuff by email, than which nothing is more yesterday. Besides, the XML that feeds produce is really useful in moving content along to other formats and presentations. Why no RSS? It’s easy, useful, sensible.
Unless, of course, I’m wrong and there are feeds that my browsers and feed reader couldn’t find. Would love to hear that they exist.
Thanks, Steve! High praise from you – LP will strive to live up to it!
It is very exciting to read the magazine I love on my iPad and even my iPhone. Thank you Slaw reader, Simon Fodden for your comment “Why no RSS?” I sent off a request and this should be easy to set up. I promise to return to let Slaw readers know when an RSS Feed is available. Meanwhile, download and enjoy a great issue – (I can say that can’t I? Pretty proud of my editorial team, writers, publisher and app builder!)
I will return to update.
