Ron Friedmann on Whether Blawgs Are a Fad

Overlooked Ron Friedmann’s thoughtful article, for American Lawyer Media, on whether blawgs are worth the investmentFor which also see a more generic analysis, until Jordan Furlong’s Canadian Bar Practice Pro links drove me to it.

As usual for Ron, well written and thoughtful. And it gives us the answer to the question, why are we doing this?

Comments

  1. At what point is there simply a clutter problem, though? How many blawgs can one person, or even one population of potential clients, read? Is Technorati or other blog-sorting service the answer?

  2. Honestly, I think the answer is to not read everything that everyone writes.

If your blog is a must read, you’ll make it into my RSS aggregator unfiltered. But otherwise, blog entries will have to match my topics of interest or selected keywords.

The tools are already out there to splice together similar blogs (or other content sources) into topical feed digests. These tools also allow the feed to be filtered to show posts that match selected keywords.

I expect this process to become easier and less mechanical, especially as more user friendly tools emerge. The bigger issue, as always, will be to choose quality sources, and to focus one’s interests enough that we are not overloaded with reading materials.

  3. And then republish it for those of us who have similar interests as you! Great idea, Steve.

Ah yes, that is I think the result might be a little like what Sabrina Pacifici does with http://www.bespacific.com, although of course she adds value with the way she introduces the materials and sorts it, so would be doing much of it manually I expect.

  4. A nice line – I think from Dennis Kennedy – that in the Blogosphere, we’re all famous, but only to 15 people.
