Minister of Justice

Canada has a new Minister of Justice, The. Hon. Vic Toews, and I thought that it might be interesting to look at some of his previous work.

He has two entries in the Index to Canadian Legal Literature:

– “The Charter [Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms] in Canadian society.” (2003) 19 Sup. Ct. L. Rev. (2d) 345-350

– Manitoba, Department of Justice, Report on Manitoba public consultations on the Young Offenders Act. (Winnipeg: Manitoba Justice, 1999)

And has appeared 7 times before the SCC:

R. v. Butler [1992] 1 S.C.R. 452

Reference Re Canada Assistance Plan (B.C.) [1991] 2 S.C.R. 525

R. v. Goltz [1991] 3 S.C.R. 485

R. v. Sawchuk [1991] S.C.C.A. No. 300 (QL).

Reference re ss. 193 and 195.1(1)(c) of the Criminal Code [1990] 1 S.C.R. 1123. (PROSTITUTION REFERENCE CASE)

R. v. Stagnitta [1990] 1 S.C.R. 1226.

Reference re Public Service Employee Relations Act (Alberta) [1987] 1 S.C.R. 313.

There are also several appearances before the Mantioba Courts of Queen’s Bench, Court of Appeal and Provincial Court.

And for the true measure of a person, he also has a Wikipedia entry.

Comments

  1. Wow the Wikipedia entry is extraordinary

  2. It is impressive. I checked the history of the document, and it was mostly created and updated by C.J. Currie, who has done a number of similar pages for Manitoba and Ontario political figures.
