Financial Support for Law via the Internet Available to CALL Members

The call for papers for Law Via the Internet (LVI) went out recently. The conference is to be held September 29-October 1, 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme – The impact of open access to legal information : bridging the gap between accessibility and usefulness – presents attendees with huge scope for discussion, and as a parliamentary librarian, I’m interested to see how many of the suggested themes go beyond the courts and into areas of citizen participation in law-making. The idea that there is a gap between accessibility and useful is also a compelling idea, and I look forward to seeing how the conference deals with this theme.

CALL members are invited to apply for the Janine Miller Fellowship, which supports attendance at LVI to a maximum of $2500. That money will certainly come in handy considering the location of the conference this year! I encourage interested members to apply. Here are the details of the award:

• All members of CALL/ACBD who have been in good standing for a minimum of twelve months are eligible to apply for the Fellowship.
• The applicant’s résumé, letter of application, and at least two letters of reference will form the basis of selection. In their letter of application, applicants should outline how attendance at the conference will benefit them in their current position and/or in their career as a law librarian.
• The successful applicant will write a report of the conference for publication in the Canadian Law Library Review.

Members who wish to apply should do so on or before April 15, 2014.
