Malcolm Mercer Elected LSO Treasurer
A short note of congratulations to our Slaw colleague Malcolm Mercer who was elected June 28th as Treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario.
If you’re reading Slaw from within the province of Ontario, you’ll recognize Malcolm. His even-handed voice and leadership on issues impacting the profession are widely visible and respected among his peers. A long time Partner at McCarthy Tétrault, Malcolm was first elected Bencher back in 2011 and then re-elected in 2015. He has led or served on numerous LSO Committees, Task Forces and Working Groups throughout his career; and has amassed a number of well deserved awards and recognitions, including the CBA’s 2013 Louis St. Laurent award.
If you read Slaw regularly, you’ll also recognize Malcolm as part of our wonderful group of Slaw ethics columnists. Malcolm, like so many of our writers, is generous with his time and gives us a “glimpse inside” of his thought process. If an issue is contentious, he will frequently write from both sides of a debate, discussing the merits of each, and then let you know where he stands. That type of intellectual honesty is admirable, and Malcolm garners respect because of it.
We’re proud of you, Malcolm! You’re going to do great.
