New RSS Tools

Did you know that RSS stands for ‘Real Simple for Steve’? … well it should, at least this week. :-)

I had a couple of new RSS finds that seem to be making a difference. First up, I stumbled across a new RSS feed filter called FeedRinse.

There are lots of great tools for combining multiple syndication sources into a single feed – known as mixing or splicing, but the market is very thin on tools to filter feed sources down to a subject or conceptual level.

I have always felt that these two tools, mixers and filters, were required elements if we are going to build RSS Subject Collections (which I blogged about last friday). Feedrinse seems to be the long sought chisel that I’ve desired for my RSS tool belt.

My second find, was the beta version of FeedDemon 2.0, which was subsequently released (yesterday, I think).

The interface for FeedDemon is the best I’ve seen, podcast management built in, synchs with Newsgator or Bloglines, $30 per seat lic., etc. etc… basically, I’m 80% sold. I’m going to try to use it exclusively for the next week or so, to get a better feel. I’ll have to let you know how it goes.

  1. Thanks Mark, your blog looks great. Any chance of building your ‘reblogger’ product on the LAMP stack? :-)

  2. Well… re-coding it across to LAMP would cost a lot of money and (a-typically) OSS software isn’t for sale. So… I see a problem there.

But hey, I wrote a post for people who want to roll their own reBlogger out of free components available on the web today!

It’s a bit tongue in cheeck. Enjoy!
    Mark.
